The beach was a very nice change of pace and, while being cloudy at first, it was very nice and similar to the beaches at home. The only difference was the length of the sand itself as there was ample space to do everything from play volleyball to tan to toss a football with no contact at all.
After getting pretty burnt we saw some guys throwing a Frisbee near us and I asked if we could join. They said sure and we found out that one, Nick, was from Utah and was living in Valencia while his wife was studying to get her masters. The other, Hector, was visiting the area with his girlfriend. They live in Madrid the rest of the year. We eventually started talking and got along very well so they invited us to their spot on the beach. We hung out, chatted about Spain and the U.S. and even played some 2 on 2 Soccer.
It was great to hang out with some people who were close to our age and were different from just us and we agreed to meet later that night to hang out some more.
After leaving the beach to get showered and changed we took a stroll around town and looked around at the other sights like the cathedral and a few plazas and finally went to meet everyone outside of McDonalds in the plaza near the cathedral. We got some tapas and then hopped around a few clubs and bars but mostly enjoyed each others company. Most of the people in Nick’s party were older (4 out of 5 were over 28) so it was a mature but fun crowd at the same time. So, with the morning bus looming, we said goodbye after 2AM and appreciated the good times that we were shown by our new friends. Hopefully we can meet again in the future and remember our times in Valencia but if not, it has been a lesson about getting to know people despite the distance between us because you never know who you can meet!
